SUMMARY:Book Group
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our first meeting (virtual\, of course)\, on Wednesday\,May 5\, 2021 from 7:00 –8:30 p.m. We will be discussing Ian McEwan’s novel Nutshell. We’ll have time to socialize\, discuss the future of the Book Club\, and of course\, discuss the book. \n\n\n\nOne of our own\, Mary Jane Mona\, will facilitate. \n\n\n\nRSVP by Friday\, April 30\, 2021. Register here. \n\n\n\nTell other Green Mountain Bulldogs. \n\n\n\nIan McEwan is a contemporary wonder of a novelist\, prolific and diverse in his subjects\, penning such masterpieces as Atonement\, Sweet Tooth\, Saturday and On Chesil Beach. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the short novel Nutshell\, McEwan offers a thoroughly modern\, loose retelling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Narrated from a perspective unlike any other\, Nutshell upends this classic tale of murder and deceit from one of the world’s master storytellers. \n\n\n\n“O God\, I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space\, were it not that I have bad dreams.”

SUMMARY:YCV Feb Club
DESCRIPTION:Feb Club Vermont – Wednesday\, February 10\, 2021\, 5:00 PM \nWhat is Feb Club? \n\n\nEvery year\, Yale alumni and their friends gather around the world every night of February — in small groups and large\, in cities\, towns\, hamlets and villages\, on every continent. Why do we do it? Simple. Because it’s fun to get together. That’s it. There is no agenda. There is no plan. Feb Club is simply a way for Yalies the world over to get together. This approach has worked since the first worldwide Feb Club in 2008. \nSince then\, Feb Club has hosted more than 1\,000 parties and has welcomed more than 30\,000 guests all with one aim – to hang out with an amazing\, diverse\, vibrant\, curious and fun group of people from all Yale College classes\, all Yale graduate and professional schools and all walks of life. Feb Club Emeritus has only three rules: no speeches\, no fundraising\, it’s just a party. It’s that simple. \n\nSee https://febclubemeritus.com\n \n\n\n\nFeb Club in Vermont 2021\n \nOur Governor’s executive order will not permit us to meet in a bar\, restaurant\, or private home for Feb Club. So we will meet on Zoom at 5:00 PM on Wednesday\, February 10. We will hear no speeches\, suffer no requests for funds\, endure no debates. We suggest you pour yourself a drink\, assemble a bowl of snacks\, and prepare to party. For this first activity of the revived Yale Club of Vermont\, we suggest you either concoct a libation featuring Vermont ingredients or made in Vermont. Be prepared to tell us a little something about your beverage of choice! Or make the (blue) Yale Cocktail.\n \nThe Montpelier\nModeled on the Manhattan\, this can be made from all Vermont-native elements.\n \n\n\n2 ounces of Vermont whiskey (such as Whistle Pig. See https://802spirits.com/products/madeinvermont)\n1/4 ounce white wine or dry vermouth (such as Dry Louise Swenson)\nDash of bitters (such as Runamok Maple Bitters)\n1 teaspoon Vermont Maple Syrup\n\n\nFill a shaker with ice. Enter the ingredients. Shake well. Smile as you shake.\nPour into a chilled martini glass with a twist of lemon. Drink slowly and responsibly.\n \nContributed by Jim Lengel\, Yale College ‘71
