My name is Elliot. I am a junior at Yale and the current Editor-in-Chief of The Yale Herald. I’m reaching out to you in your capacity as a representative of Yale Club of Vermont. Since the onset of the pandemic, The Yale Herald has been struggling financially. We’ve started a GoFundMe to help us recover the losses we’ve suffered in the pandemic, and we were wondering if you’d be willing to share the link (https://gofund.me/2ec69b13) with your email list or Facebook group
The Yale Herald has been providing the Yale campus with weekly news, creative writing, arts coverage, and cultural criticism since 1986. With an editorial team of 50 and a circulation of 2,000, the Herald is one of Yale’s largest and most widely-read publications. But between printing costs and website fees, running a publication can be expensive. Historically, much of the Herald’s revenue has come from local business ads. The pandemic has caused financial hardship among New Haven businesses, and therefore many can no longer afford to take out ads in our issues. With our current available funds, we won’t be able to print any issues in the spring semester.
In order to provide the Yale community with continued access to our coverage, we’re hoping to raise $6,000 in this fundraiser, enough to cover printing for the spring semester and to provide us with seed money we can use for further fundraising. We hope this fundraiser allows us to keep offering the Yale community an alternative source of writing and news, like our publication has done for the past 35 years.
Let me know if you’d be willing to share our GoFundMe, or if you’d like to donate yourself. We appreciate any and all contributions. Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
Elliot Lewis
