Want to Interview Prospective Yalies?

Here’s how. Information provided by Samantha Langevin:

“Interviewing prospective students – why do it?  Well, I’ve just finished my 14th season or so of interviews and I can honestly say it continues to be one the most rewarding ways for me to stay connected to Yale and give back to a community that shaped my education, views, and values.  Speaking to young people in our communities is also an opportunity to gain perspective into the issues affecting VT’s young adults.  Vermont has a great core of alumni across the state who each year help to speak to as many prospective students as possible and if you’d like, we would love for you to join us.
To get started, visit the Alumni Schools Committee website.  Click on the  blue “New Volunteers” button at the bottom left to enter your preferences for interviewing.  These will include things like your comfort with conducting virtual interviews, preference of interview round, and number of interviews you to which you can commit.  After that, you should be set!  The ASC website has some great resources for first time interviewers, including an interactive ASC Orientation document (If you have never interviewed before, I highly recommend checking this out).  This document will include everything from sample interview questions and reports to current statistics and data on admittance and applications.  Our next interview season will begin next fall with interviews for Early Action applicants.   The interviews season is broken down into chunks – Early Action and Regular Decision.  For each assigned candidate, alums are asked to a) set up the interview, b) interview the candidate, and c) submit a report to the Alumni Schools Committee.  That’s it!  Most interviews typically last 30-60 minutes and you have total control over the number of interviews you’d like to commit to each season.   As the ASC director for VT, I am in charge of assigning applicants to alums, answering questions, and helping to make sure it is a smooth and easy interview season.  Feel free to reach me at samantha.langevin@gmail.com with any questions or feedback.”
