Michael Morand of the Beinecke Library will reflect on the copy of W. E. B. Du Bois’s Black Reconstruction in the James Weldon Johnson Memorial Collection of African American Arts and Letters at Yale (JWJ) and share aspects of the collection which have relevance and resonance in our own time, shining light from the archives for contemporary pursuits of truth.

Michael Morand has lived in New Haven since 1983, when he came to Yale College as a first-year student. A graduate of the college and the Yale Divinity School, he has devoted his career in the university administration to building community and bringing people together. He currently is director of community engagement for the Beinecke Library and Yale Library special collections. He was previously deputy chief communications officer of the university and associate vice president for New Haven and state affairs.
